Obituary

Zachary Ryan Luna, 38, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Zachary was born on August 5, 1987, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Stacy James and Andy Luna. He spent his early childhood in New Mexico before moving with his mother to Texas and later to Guam, where he proudly graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Tamuning, Guam.
Following graduation, Zachary moved back to Midland, Texas, for a few years, where he lived with his grandmother, Charlotte James, who was like a second mother to him, before rejoining his family in Orlando, Florida.

Throughout his life, Zach faced lifelong medical battles with courage and resilience. After an extreme case of COVID-19 in 2020, he required a higher level of care, and the compassionate team at 5 Star Cares in Tampa lovingly cared for him until his passing.

Zach will be remembered for his unforgettable smile, his remarkable memory for birthdays, and his ability to make everyone laugh. He adored his family, loved movies and good food, and never lost his joyful spirit. Every night before going to sleep, he would call his mom to remind her to take her pill — a small but perfect reflection of his caring heart.

Even in his final moments, Zachary remained generous. Through organ donation, he gave others the gift of life — a final act of love that reflects the way he lived.

He is survived by his mother, Stacy Edwards; his bonus father of 30 years, Andrew Edwards; his younger brother, Austin Edwards, whom he adored; his older brothers, Ray Luna and Sylvester Luna; and his sister, Sadie Luna — all of whom were very special to him. He is also survived by his uncle Jerry James; Aunt Soo; Aunt Betsy; his cousin and best friend, Jessica James, his cousin Dillon James and his beautiful family; and his cousin Zackery Morris. Austin, Dillon, Jessica and Zachary, spent every summer together since they were children, creating lifelong memories and an unbreakable bond. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandparents Floyd and Ginger Edwards and many extended family members, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.

On his father’s side, he is lovingly remembered by his uncles George and Mario; his aunts Melva, Amanda, and Maria; and by so many more extended family and friends including cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry his memory forward.

Zachary was preceded in death by his father, Andy Luna; his grandmother, Charlotte James; his grandfather, Jerry James; his Aunt Elvia Lopez; and many beloved grandparents, great-grandparents, and family members who welcomed him home.

A Memorial Gathering in Zachary’s honor will be held in late March, at one of the 5 Star Cares locations.
During this time, staff and loved ones will come together to share memories, reflect, and plant a memory tree in Zachary’s name as a lasting tribute.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to 5 Star Cares, the wonderful facility that cared for Zachary — and so many others — in his final years when he could not be at home with his family.
