LTC Randall Louis “Bert” Bertrand
May 7, 1943 – September 15, 2025
Randall Louis Bertrand, lovingly known as “Bert” to his family and friends, was born on May 7, 1943, and passed away on September 15, 2025, at the age of 82 at his home in Tampa, Florida with his two sons by his side. He left us on his terms, free of pain, and with his sense of humor intact until the end.
Bert was larger than life – overflowing with positivity, resilience, and stories you couldn’t make up. From a country boy to a 1950’s greaser teen, to a Vietnam fighter pilot then commercial airline captain, from college football player and coach to patched biker, he lived more lives than most of us can imagine. Wherever he went, he carried an energy that commanded attention, softened by humor and generosity. He was a force who inspired, encouraged, and challenged those around him and most of all THIS WAS A MAN WHO LIVED! He was a HERO to many and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his sister, Pat (Jim Mullins), his two sons, Erik Bertrand (Allana Covi) and Shawn Bertrand, his niece Ginger (Bob DeBenedetto), and his two grandchildren, Braiden Bertrand and Bryn Bertrand, along with countless cousins.
