Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba and the son of Miguel Laureano Lorenzo Castro and Esperanza Esther Castro. In 1960 he met the love of his life and only wife and partner, Elvia Castro. They had a courtship for four years and then were married for 65 years being together an entire 69 years.
He was raised Catholic and in his later years was baptized in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Miguel received his formal education in Cuba in “The Jesuit School” and later attended the prestigious Cuban College known as “National Schools” majoring in Radio, Television and Electronics.
He soon followed his father’s footsteps working for “The Cuban Telephone Company” in Cuba.
In March of 1962 he filed for Political Asylum and came to The United States of America. He soon became a resident and a citizen. Searching for employment he ended up in Joliet Illinois where his first job was manually digging graves at a local cemetery. He worked by day and went to school at night attending The Joliet Community College where he learned English and took classes in Electronics. He later became a Maintenance Electrician at the Electro-Motive Division in La Grange Illinois. There he flourished for twelve years and built his first home for his family.
In 1973, he moved his wife and two children to Tampa, Florida where he worked for GTE and Verizon from 4pm to Midnight. And during the day he worked as a Master Electrician for his own company Castro Electric and as a General Contractor building custom homes throughout Tampa Bay with his other company Castro Construction and Development Inc.
Miguel was a true gentleman who would open doors and offer his chair for others. He was a generous man who always “snagged the check” if he took you out for lunch. He was known for his kindness, good-nature, and optimistic spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Elvia Castro, his two children, Esther “Star” Castro and Juan Miguel Castro (Mike), and his granddaughter Angela Castro.

Nació en Cienfuegos, Cuba, hijo de Miguel Laureano Lorenzo Castro y Esperanza Esther Castro. En 1960 conoció al amor de su vida y única esposa y compañera, Elvia Castro. Tuvieron un noviazgo de cuatro años y luego estuvieron casados durante 65 años, sumando un total de 69.
Se crio en la fe católica y, en sus últimos años, fue bautizado en la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día.
Miguel recibió su educación formal en Cuba en el Colegio Jesuita y posteriormente asistió al prestigioso Colegio Cubano conocido como las Escuelas Nacionales, especializándose en Radio, Televisión y Electrónica.

Buscando empleo, terminó en Joliet, Illinois, donde su primer trabajo fue cavar tumbas manualmente en un cementerio local. Trabajaba de día y estudiaba por la noche en el Joliet Community College, donde aprendió inglés y tomó clases de electrónica. Posteriormente, se convirtió en electricista de mantenimiento en la División Electro-Motive de La Grange, Illinois. Allí prosperó durante doce años y construyó su primera casa para su familia.

Le sobreviven su esposa, Elvia Castro, sus dos hijos, Esther “Star” Castro y Juan Miguel Castro (Mike), y su nieta, Angela Castro.
