Carol Sue Dorland, 77, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Tampa, Florida. She was born on January 6, 1948, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to Ruth Catherine and Samuel Noland Payne.

Carol was a fighter through and through — strong, resilient, and full of life. She faced every challenge with courage and that unmistakable sass that everyone who knew her loved. Her spirit was as fiery as it was kind, and her strength inspired those around her.

She spent most of her adult life in “The Creek,” where she was lovingly known as the neighborhood mom. Carol cared for countless children over the years, each holding a special place in her heart. She loved them all as if they were her own, and the memories of those years were among her fondest. She was also known for her good cooking — especially her famous potato salad, a favorite among family and friends.

Above all else, Carol cherished her family. She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Parrilla and Ashley Dorland; her son-in-law, Ramon Parrilla; her granddaughter, Hayden Parrilla; and her brother, Samuel Payne Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Catherine and Samuel Noland Payne, and her sister, Betty Heath.

Carol’s legacy of love, care, strength, and spirit will live on through the many lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
