Obituary

Rosalie “Rose” Glatkowski, who passed into the arms of her savior on Good Friday, April 18th at the age of 91, was born in Tampa in 1933, the second daughter of Frank and Carolina Durand. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1951 and from University of Tampa in 1955, where she studied to be a teacher and served as President of her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. Her memories of her time at UT were precious. She later received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Florida. In Atlanta, she met and married her husband, Raymond, and they had their daughter, Lisa, who was her devoted and dedicated caregiver.

She was an amazing cook, famous for her spaghetti and meatballs, but it is her homemade manicotti, made for crowds of family and friends every Christmas, that will always be remembered. She enjoyed the music of Johnny Mathis and Luciano Pavarotti and was an avid reader. She opened her home to her daughter’s friends, including the four-legged ones, with love and acceptance and her kindness touched too many people to count.

She is predeceased by her beloved Ray, her sister, Fae, her life-long friend, Zodie Santa Cruz, and her parents. She leaves behind her cherished daughter, Lisa, her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Nilla and Sam Leto, her baby brother, George Durand, and her sister-of-the-heart, Anita Durand, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she loved with all her heart. She belonged to St. Paul Catholic Church.

She went by many names: Rosalie, Rose, Rosie, and Parina, but being “Ma” to Lisa was her greatest pleasure.

In lieu of flowers, she asks that you remember her in your prayers and with a mass every now and then.

Funeral mass will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 14 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Carrollwood.
