Sylvia "Syl" May Wilson


Sylvia “Syl” May Wilson, born September 17, 1937 in Hendon, England, passed away Wednesday, January, 25th, 2023 surrounded by her 5 children, Steve, Mike, Maria, Sean and Sami.

Sylvia loved music, her soap operas, Law and Order, dancing (country, ballroom, and salsa) and her family.

On September 18th, 1954, she married Miguel Novo and 1 year later they welcomed their first born Steve. A year later, they moved to the states and welcomed Michael, Maria and Sean. In the late sixties Sylvia started working at GTE as a night operator. Early in the 1970’s Sylvia and Miguel divorced, and she married Dan D. Wilson. In 1978 they welcomed daughter Samantha. In 1985 Dan, Sylvia, Sean and Sami moved to Papillon, Nebraska where Sylvia worked at the Papillon Times. Later she got a job in sales for Omaha Steaks where she worked for 15 years before retiring. During her life in Nebraska, she found her love of dancing again. Sylvia and Dan divorced in 2009 and Sylvia moved back to Temple Terrace, Florida where she lived until the end of her life.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Emma Mills, sister June Mills, and brother Douglas Mills. Both ex-husbands Miguel and Dan never remarried because they still loved Sylvia. She was also preceded in death by her best friends, Fred Van Lengen and Phyllis Salyards.

Surviving Sylvia are her children Steve (Debbi) Novo, Mike Novo Sr., Maria (Betty) Novo, Sean (Christina) Novo Sr. of Florida. Samantha (Gary) Niederbrach, ex son in law Frederik Veneman of Illinois. Grandchildren Eric, Chris, Nick, Mike Jr., Michele, Jeanette, Jessica, Dylan, Aaron, Sylvia (Taylor), Veronica, Abigail, Sean Jr., Ryan, Connor and Maria along with nephew Albert Mills.

She is also survived by many loving great grandchildren.
