Robert Thaxton Sampson, 57, was born to the late Ellen Delois Sampson in Goldsboro, North Carolina on June 1, 1965. He transitioned peacefully, Saturday, March 26th, 2022 in Tampa Florida, where he shared a home with his wife, Joann (Holt) Sampson.
Robert attended Goldsboro High School and was a very adventurous young man who channeled his love of sports and outdoors through his time as a Boy Scout and weekend adventures to the beach with his friends. On November 18, 1989 Robert married Joann Holt at St. Mark Church of Christ, who was by his side when he passed, as she always has been, together they had 4 children. Their marriage was full of love, deep belly laughs, and overcoming hardships as a team. Robert was always very proud of his children, sharing stories of their accomplishments with everyone he met. One of his proudest titles was becoming “Paw Paw” to his granddaughter Gabrielle Erin Stevens, who added an abundance of joyful memories to the last 8 years of his life.
Robert, the youngest child of Ellen Delois Sampson, felt blessed to have such a large family and leaves his cherished memories to his wife Joann (Holt) Sampson, his children Devin Thaxton Sampson, Madison Ann Sampson, Kimmie Gale Sampson. Brother Lewis Howard (Cowania) Sampson of Goldsboro NC; 3 sisters, Millie Anita Boyd of San Antonio, Texas, Deronda Nae Sampson, and Althea Renee (William) Grantham both of Goldsboro, NC. Robert held a huge soft spot for all of his beloved nieces and nephews, who he wished he could hug, cook for, and laugh with every day. Robert is also survived by the countless friends he made along his journey, who will surely keep his spirit alive when they tell stories of their long car rides and nights singing and dancing to songs on the radio.
He was preceded in death by 1 son, Jonathan Thaxton Sampson; 3 brothers, Calvin Sampson Jr., William Dwight Sampson both of Goldsboro, NC, and Anthony Brooks Sampson of South Orange NJ; 2 sisters, Deborah B. Moore, and Mary Ellen Sampson-Peterson both of Goldsboro, NC.
Robert will be remembered for his fun-loving nature, long storytelling, and ability to bring everyone out of their shells with his humor and charm. His commitment to his family, joy of learning new things, and exploring the world will live on through generations to come. Even when life ends, love endures.
The Sampson family will gather on Saturday, April 2, 2022, in honor of Robert's life. Flowers and cards can be sent to 808 S. Madison Ave, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
