John C. Losgar, Jr., 70, of Tampa, Florida died on May 23, 2021 after a short battle with lung cancer. John was born in Queens and raised in College Point, NY. He was oldest son of the late John C. (Sr.) and Eleanor (Schieler) Losgar.
After graduating from high school in New York, John was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was in the Military Police (serving in Vietnam) from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1971. John left the service and attended a technical trade school, where he found his passion in the field of Information Technology/Computer Programming. John worked for Verizon (GTE) for over 40 years, retiring as a Computer Systems Architect. Tampa became his home after stints in New York and California. John received many accolades and awards for a job well done. His passion for IT continued into retirement where he had more time to play video games, closing the long-distance gap with his son, son-in-law and brother. Watching football together, usually long distance, was also high on the list for family time. Everyone enjoyed the friendly, but spirited rivalry and his absence will be felt deeply.
John loved being a Grandpa, too. His children and grandkids will always remember him for being a master of making spaghetti sauce, the kanuptz, wet willies, happy face/sad face, and stringing Christmas tree lights. John had a big heart. He was kind, easy to talk to and always ready to listen. He was never afraid to share his opinion (he always had one!), and he always made you laugh. John enjoyed being a character.
One of John’s favorite combos was a cup of coffee and a good conversation. Action/adventure movies, police dramas, and sci-fi books were high on the list, too. And, being a child of the ‘60’s, he was an avid music lover/enthusiast. He had a good ear/voice and learned to play several instruments.
John and his wife, Nancy, were married for 33 years. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Gail, their beloved children Jessica (Neil) Hickey and Jeremy (Holly); three grandchildren, Fiona, Aria, and Lyla; two brothers, Michael (Angelica) and Robert (Maile); a sister, Sarah; two sisters in-law (Kathy and Anita); and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his parents and brother, William. John is also survived by his fur daughter, Gremlin, who misses his treats and snuggles.
