James (Jim) Arthur Small of Tampa, Florida passed away on January 9, 2025 at his home in Tampa.
Jim was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Jack and Margaret Small. He graduated from Waggener High School in Louisville, Kentucky and attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Jim went on to serve in the United States Navy where he was a Lieutenant on the USS Nathanael Greene ballistic missile submarine, and later was an instructor at the Navy’s Nuclear Power School. Upon leaving the Navy, Jim served as an executive for Southern Company Services in Birmingham, Alabama, Georgia Power Company in Atlanta, Georgia, and Commonwealth Edison in Chicago, Illinois. Jim retired in 2000 and spent many years traveling abroad with his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Margaret Small. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Adelaide Small of Tampa, Florida, his daughter Suzanne Gueterman and husband Rob of Tampa Florida, his son, Jack Small and wife Aimee of Atlanta Georgia, and his four grandchildren, Stephen Gueterman, and Mallory, Madelyn, and Macy Small.
