On June 16, 2023, David Glenn Miller went to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. David was born on January 12, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan to David Miller and Rosie L. Miller. Shortly after his family moved to Greenwood, Mississippi and later to South Bend, Indiana, where he lived until he graduated high school and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1976.
David married Sandra K. Coleman in 1979 and they had 2 children together Charveilla Miller and David Miller II. David and Sandra were divorced in 1994. At this time David was also completing his military service obligation which consisted of 20 years of honorable active-duty service. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1996. During his military career his duties and awards are included, but were not limited to: Rifleman, Infantry, Scout Sniper, and Motor Transport Maintenance Chief. He earned a host of shooting awards and personal awards. Letter of Recognition, Letter of Appreciation, Meritorious Mast, Certificate of Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (6 Stars), Navy Commendation Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 Stars), Combat Action Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
After David retired from the Marine Corps, he earned his teaching credentials and became a Marine Corps ROTC Instructor at Clearwater High School for almost 20 years. He was a member of the Tampa, Florida Buffalo Soldiers, and was a member of a scuba club where he was a certified Dive Master.
He liked taking care of his pets, that over time included cats, dogs, and horses. He got a music scholarship in high school for playing the tuba. He also played the guitar, trombone and baritone. He enjoyed playing the bass guitar, basketball, hunting and fishing. He was loved dearly by his family and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children, Michael Williams, Charveilla Miller, and David Miller II., grandchildren, Miciah Williams, Michaela Williams, Markhale Williams, Michael Williams Jr., Micheareyan Williams, Elijah Percy, Dylan Miller, Gabriel Holub, Madison Rose Holub, and Zander Miller. He is also survived by his mother Rosie L. Miller and his siblings, Daveeda Miller, Derek Miller, Arlene Carian, and Jacinta Miller. He was predeceased by his father David Miller and two siblings, Antony Miller and Kimberlie Miller Courter. His long-time dear friend, Patricia Mosley, helped look after him in his final years when his family could not.
Lord Support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and work is done. Then in thy mercy grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last. Amen.
